RPA Tribute to the late Professor Chris O'Brien

Professor Chris O'Brien passed away on Thursday evening, 4th June 2009. This tribute is from the conclusion of the RPA episode which aired on Wednesday evening, 10th June on the Nine Network.

I won't say anything else in the description otherwise I will probably write an essay; may you rest in peace now, Chris.

(P.S. sure, I don't have copyright to this video, but I think the folks at the Nine Network won't mind on this occasion.)

just heard chris obriens son passed away from an epileptic seizure aged just 29...my heart goes out to the obrien family..i cant even imagine your grief....rest in peace your both together now...xx

well that can't be anything but crushing for the family :-( i must admit i only heard this today. i guess if anything it reinforces the need to spend time with one's family when possible, and to appreciate the finite window together.

chris your a true inspiration to me i was diagnsoed in may 2009 with thyroid cancer and when i'm done i just think about you

He really was one in a million. I only ever heard him speak once (at a relay for life) and he truly was a phenomenal man, very humble and a general nice guy.

I like to think his soul continues to have a strong connection to RPA as well as living on in the memory of family, friends and colleagues. RIP to a wonderful man who changed the lives of others. very sad:(

I remember seeing this...very sad loss for the neurosurgical community. I bet many of his patients are eternally grateful for his dedication. I dont know a lot about brain tumours but im guessing 2and a half years is pretty good..unless it was full of pain and suffering.

Chris O'Brien is the epitome of kindness and compassion. He is a true hero and will never be forgotten for being a talented surgeon and most of all an example of how to act as a human being and treat others with kindness, respect, humour and dignity. I hope his family is doing well.

just found out at the end of an episode of Hospital Sydney that Prof O'Brien was diagnosed with a brain tumour so googled him too. So sad, what a true hero. My dad was diagnosed with the same type of brain tumour in 2005, he died within 3 months. Doctors still don't know what causes brain tumours. RIP Prof O'Brien, love to your family xx

omg, i watched a hour long programme of sidney hospital , at the end it said he had a tumor, tonight i google how he was getting on to find out he has passed away, i'm shocked and upset to see this, what a gentleman he was, loved watching this programme, rip chris , from ireland
