Grandfather David WINN-call Det/Sgt Gary Giroux 416-808-7400.

Homicide 17 / 2010 Deceased
Ludlow GILLESPIE, 25 years
Accused
Melissa LEWIS, 24 years
On Saturday the 29th of May 2010 at 2:34 PM the deceased / accused / accused father / 6 year girl are driving northbound on Windermere Avenue from Lakeshore Blvd. There appears to be an argument going on within the moving vehicle between the accused and the deceased. The accused produced a knife and stabbed the deceased while he was driving. Witnesses have told the police that loud sustained screaming could be heard coming from the child in the rear seat. The vehicle came to rest with its two passenger wheels on the east sidewalk of Windermere Ave. All of the occupants exited the car. The deceased immediately collapsed bleeding and was vital signs absent. The deceased was transported to St Joseph's hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The accused father -- identified as David WINN ( 54 years ) picked up the child and fled the scene. The child was located by investigators later that same night and interviewed but not Mr. WINN. As a result of the circumstances of what this 6 year old child saw the Toronto Children's Aid Society was contacted and are investigating.
Numerous members of the community within the area provided statements to the police with regards to the narrative of events once the vehicle came to a stop. The accused father David WINN -- at this point is not co-operating with the investigation. The accused -- Melissa LEWIS remained on scene and was taken into custody. The Homicide Sq. is urging David WINN to contact the Homicide Squad investigators so that his observations can be appropriately recorded. I appreciate the most uncomfortable position he now finds himself in with regards to his daughter charged with 2nd Degree Murder. I would hope his involvement will allow the child within the car to be spared her from testifying with regards to what took place within the car. The accused made her first court appearance yesterday at the Old City Hall and was remanded in custody. The post mortem examination in now on going
