9 1/2 week old female Sugar Glider Zoey, was diagnosed with a severe gum disease due to a unknow cause from the breeder we got her from. The first day we got Zoey we noticed a huge scab on the left side of her mouth. We were very concerned, she was also sneezing a lot and was having difficulty chewing her food. We took Zoey to the vet two days after we got her. The Vet told us she had a gum infection on the left side of her mouth that was so bad she lost all of her teeth on that side. The infection was starting to spread to the right side of her mouth as will and cause her to develop a sinus infection. The Vet was very concerned the infection might have went into her bones as well. She put Zoey on a antibiotic, Clindamycin - twice a day for 14 days and pain medicine Metacam once a day for 7 days and as needed for pain and inflammation. Zoey has to have a follow- up appt. with the vet two weeks after the day we took her. The most recent picture we have was a week of Zoey being on an antibiotic and pain medicine. It's a huge improvement and Zoey is doing very well. :) . We also have a 4 month old healthy male sugar glider, Gizmo that we got from a different breeder than Zoey. That's why we were very concerned about the way she was acting. The vet stated that if we didn't take her when we did she could have died due to how bad the infection was.
