  • @CookieDude1178999 sure enough. The V8 Supercars Ambrose raced in Australia are around 3000 pounds without the driver. And they do have built-in air jacks to raise the cars. And single locking wheel nuts on each wheel. Along with fuel injection. Then a Nascar is built of pipe and has a dummy body put on top. With a trunk full of bricks to keep the weight up. Or a boat anchor for breaking

  • @wha65 15- 17 inch is the standard size, not that much bigger than a car steering wheel

  • Oh shit its Marty Reid

  • @wha65 1. The cars weigh 3600 pounds without fluids. Those air jacks wouldn't last for 4+ pitstops a race. Also it puts emphasis on the Pit crew.

    2. Makes it harder on the pit crews knowing they have to knock off 5 and put on 5 twice in a stop. Plus thats how the street cars are.

    3. Have no Idea, but my guess is it makes it harder to drive; and they run predominately on intermediate ovals.

    4. Cost effective. They're going to them in 2012.

  • @wha65

bigger wheel = more torque = less effort to turn = big difference after 4 hours of turning.

  • Like you, I am an avid fan of V8 Supercars, however, since Marcos went over, I'm liking NASCAR more.

I believe the answer to all your questions is that NASCAR have a philosphy of, "If it worked in 1985, it will work now."

Essentially, it keeps the onus on the drivers and their abilities rather than the car...

  • Fair enough. Have a crack at these.

I'm a solid V8 fan, but i still love Nascar

    1. Why don't Nascar use air guns and pistons to lift the car.

    2. Why don't they use a central lug nut on the wheels.

    3. Why don't they have a a anti roll bar adjuster in the cabin.

    4. Why do they still use carburetors.

  • I think the reason for big steering wheel is so they don't over correct their slides too much and end up in the wall...

  • I have a feeling he might win the 500.

Anybody know why the cars have such large steering wheels?

They look as big as a tractors. lol
