u cough and cough after each other without breathing because you cant breathe for coughing. Your face turns red, blue or purple when you have a coughing fit and at the end of each cough you take in a HUGE breath and make a whooping sound as you do so - those are the symptoms. and your belly muscles hurt after coughing and sometimes you go to be sick.
My cousin died of pertussis in 2002 when he was 6 weeks old, exactly 2 weeks before he was due to get his vaccination. He was 1 of only 15 children that died in the state of Pennsylvania due to pertussis on 2002. The whole family was tested and it was determined he didnt catch it from any of us. Whoever made colin sick was never notified and may have contaminated others. He was taken to the local hospital where he was misdiagnosed and sent home.
5 days later he was diagnosed with pertussis and sent to a childrens hospital where he died. Had the first hospital spotted the disease when they had the chance, Colin could have been treated early and survived. Early diagnosis is crucial and could mean life and death for the child. Thanks for helping spread the word!
I'm sorry to hear that. ):
