Channel 7, KLTV - 4/14/2010 - Your nurse may soon be your doctor. A combination of the health care overhaul and the shortage of primary care doctors has states considering giving more authority to nurse practitioners.
Here is the deal: No one in the medical or nursing community practices with autonomy. There is no reason why a NP should be held back from practicing independently. Every physician and nurse practitioner consults with other resources on a regular basis. For instance, If someone comes in with chest pain, I call 911 and start the chest pain protocol - which is the same thing a physician would do. I work beside physicians - and they practice no different than me - and even consult me at times.
This is very misleading to patients. If I want to see a doctor, it better be a doctor and not an online educated nurse. This is horrifying to say the least. Sure, they may need these "practitioners" in rural areas where no doctor would go. God help the rural people. And the biggest argument I have heard for NPs is that they take time to talk to you. Well, I like it that I can get in and out of my doctor's office fast. I don't need a shrink to talk to. My doc is excellent, efficient and effective
Who on earth would see a nurse when you could see a real doctor? Makes no sense. Nurses are good and the touchy feely stuff but man I want to see a real doctor if I need real help. It would be like having your car fixed by the receptionist at your car dealership instead of the actual mechanic. Makes no sense!!
That is terrible sounding! if someone can do their own practice on their own is a Physician Assistant, a Physician Assistant is trained like a Physician unlike a nurse is trained in a nursing type of field which is doing what the Physician Assistant or Physician tells them to .. They are not educated enough (nurses)
This is bull. I graduated two years ago with a BSN from a top 50 College of Nursing right now I am in a nurse practitioner program because it is the only opportunity I can find. There is no shortage of doctors or nurses.
LOL, NP's never can replace MD's. Just look at the two women being interviewed; even in this short clip you can tell the intellectual difference between the Doc and the nurse just from hearing them talk.
