My Snare Drum Solo, 2nd Place. Finished writing it 30 minutes before it was performed.

And please, don't bother telling me to "stand up straight." I've heard it a million times already.

  • Good job, but I'm confused. I play piano and don't know ANYTHING about drums, but do you read notes? That wouldn't make sense though because it's just a beat....not notes. So. Are there certain markings to make out the beat? Or do you just here it and....GRR! I don't get it! Please answer! THnaks...maybe I'm just being a blonde...

  • @horsegurlcrazy14 Well I didn't write any music for this so i wasn't reading. If I did have music, it would be normal notation. Since snare drum has only one pitch all the notes would on one line. Rhythm is read the same way as piano.

  • Heights would be a good thing to practice, the whole "dynamics" thing.

  • @S1lv3rdo7 as far as I'm concerned, fortissimo is the only dynamic.

  • @manwiththemoves which is probably why you got second, its harder to play stuff at 3in and still sound good

  • @nsudrumshard it was a joke...I don't actually believe there is only one volume. sheesh.

  • @JessOnTheRun If it offends you that much, maybe you should find something better to do with your time.

On second thought, go fuck yourself.

  • sweet stuff man. good writing!

  • stand up straight

  • @PaulyZuko Well, prick or not, JessOnTheRun is right. I tried out for Phantom Regiment for the 2001 season with about the same technique/ chops, and got cut the first weekend with very poor scores on my 'report card'. I def think there is a lot of potential, but the technique is an issue here. @manwiththemoves, don't worry about the not standing straight, most snare solos, guys are leaning slightly to the left to get more torque out of their left arm. Keep practicing and you'll get there :)

  • mmm.. Im I the only one.. I feel for popcorn now

  • @JessOnTheRun You know, you can give constructive criticism without being a total prick about it. Just putting that out there...

  • @horsegurlcrazy14

Percussion can be written on a typical notation staff such as the grand staff or a percussion staff. With batter percussion such as the snare it's written as rhythms mostly unless there's a different sound required, such as rim/stick shots. With drum set it's written on a staff and it takes up all of the lines and spaces. With mallet percussion it's written on one staff unless it's four-mallet, then it's written on the grand staff..

  • Watch your left thumb bro.....

  • Hahah the judge is like "Awww no he didn't"

  • Lol look at that traditional grip:P

  • Amazing solo but the stick heighting just a bit off but overall quite good (:
