This is a video of the Saturn USB DataLink in operation. First, a game-save download is sent to a (initially empty) Saturn. Second, a homebrew game is downloaded to the Saturn.

  • A couple questions.

    1. Is the data transfer between computer and ARP save memory or between computer and Saturn internal save memory?

    2. Since the footage of the DataLink is now present, I assume the Saturn needs to be operational or powered-on to enable data transfer? If so, this limits range of data transfer, meaning Saturn must be close to computer and television. This makes it harder for those without laptop or television not nearby computer.

  • 1) The game-saves are transferred between the Saturn internal save memory and the PC. Eventually, I hope to add the ability to also read/write the ARP flash memory.

    2) Yes, The Saturn needs to be powered during the data transfer. If you have a PC in the same room as the Saturn, you can use a long USB cable (16ft max.). Otherwise, the best solution is to use a laptop computer.

  • Thank you for the information.

Regarding future plans for adding R/W to to ARP memory, will this be a software based addition or hardware implemented? I ask since if I were to buy a unit in the near future but before this new feature is added whether or not I'd be able to upgrade or not.

  • I am doing this in my spare time, so it will be quite a while before this feature is added. It will require a firmware change, which I would do for free for anyone. The only thing you would have to pay for is shipping.

In the past, most additional features have only required a software update (download a new exe from the website). But to perform operations on the flash memory of the cartridge, I will definately have to add new firmware routines.

  • Is there a way to update an Action Replay Plus 4 in 1 Auto Cart to 2.02 without a data link? Is there a way to do it with a cdr?

  • hey where did you get that wallpaper?

can you email it to me?

  • this is so good. I'm an artist who has worked with VMU's in the past (thanks to rockinB) and I'm considering the possibility of working on the SS (my favorite machine). Who knows, if it's possible e, with my mediocre knowledge of these things to make something, I'll be sure to get one from your website.

    Great work

  • you are a genius

  • interesting video thanks for sharing

  • That's all I wanted to know. Thanks again for your reply.
