Rep. Slaughter joined her colleagues on the House Floor to stand up a crippling cut to the National Endowment for the Arts. Noting the incredible economic impact of the arts, Congresswoman Slaughter supported continued support for the NEA, as a primary job creator and economic engine, in addition to the many intangible benefits the arts provide.

@t1bre So, the arts only belongs to the wealthy? Other developed nations spend many TIMES more than we do on the arts. It's bizarre that the hard right prattles on constantly about "patriotism" and "American exceptionalism" and then they ignore the things that really do make America unique and special--our arts, our literature, our poetry, our humanities. The NEA is a pittance of an investment that pays off many times more than it spends.

Thank you, Representative Slaughter! Thank you for so eloquently and tactfully calling out those who seek to cut a program that actually creates government revenue, jobs and better communities in our nation. The arts work for our country!

Thank you for this! I will share this on Facebook and hope that my 1,000+ friends will also share it. As a theatre artist, I appreciate your vocal support for one of the most beneficial sectors of American business which is also one of the most undervalued and overlooked.
