@alin1975 Gates is her mother's maiden name. She used Cheryl until Star Trek, then decided to use Gates because she was flying a lot and she thought it was appropriate. Um... okay. In the same interview she said that she prefers Gates to Cheryl.

I'm a big fan of hers, but I'm pretty sure she's not telling the truth when she answers some fan and interview questions. I think she doesn't think it's that person's business, so she makes up an answer. I think it's kind of funny.

That may be, but it's also likely she didn't want the other rumors to come to the surface. Where I got my info was back when the show was new. The rumor went that one of the producers kept showing her unwanted attention, and she left because of it. Secual harrasment like that isn't new. Of course, people generally play down stories like that, especially when they are actors. Was your story correct? Maybe. Was mine correct? Maybe. The only ones who know for sure are the ones who were involved.
