Carding fleece on a hand powered carding machine. It worked, but I didn't do it correctly. I should have picked bits from the bat and put it in very slowly. Oops. See the comment below for the correct way.

  • Thanks for another lovely video. I have just purchased a drumcarder with a fellow spinner. We purchased it form ebay and are both very excited to start using it. I have a couple of sheep fleeces and 2 alpaca fleeces , this is going to be so much easier than hand carding.

    Thanks again Nancy.

  • Very nice lady, but doesn't know how to properly use a drum carder. The wool in the batt was damaged and pilled. #1 rule is to pick you wool and feed LIGHTLY into the machine. She fed too heavily and is why the infeed drum (licker in) wouldn't turn freely. Also, the wool she was using was way too fine for the course carding cloth. If properly carded, there should not be so much wool left on the worker drum or the licker in. She I do love her smile and enthusiasm!

  • I've been spinning for 15 years and took a while to learn all the little tricks of drum carding. There are different carding clothes from coarse wool cloth to fine and the cloth on your carder is for coarser wool. When you feed wool into a drum carder, it should be fed so lightly that you can see the infeed tray thru the wool. Also, look at some you-tube vidios on wool pickers. You'll find a big difference in the finished process! You looked very pleasant and happ!

  • i truelly hope anyone who watches this video DOES NOT CARD WOOL HER WAY....IT IS ALL WRONG. SET UP CORRECTLY, THE DRUM CARDER CAN BE USED WITH ONE HAND TURNING THE HANDLE AND THE OTHER HAND FEEDING IN SMALL...I REPEAT SMALL AMTS OF FIBER. HER BELT SLIPS AND THE SMALL DRUM WAS PICKING UP WAY TOO MUCH FIBER.

  • @LiisaRissanen Hey Liisa! Your dear Rin came over with Darek. We made willow baskets on the floor in the living room! It was great fun. Are you still in Nepal?

  • genius....thanx for being alive

  • everyone has to start somewhere to learn these things....without our mistakes where would we be? these kinds of rough batts make great art yarns...
