A part of madaras soul was locked aways during a fight back in his days,the other part was "resurrected" within a Zetsu clone.Thats why he was resurrected with that jutsu.

@zombiemovieify why don't you name the millions of reasons then, because in the recent chapter i heard that Tobi is probably a guy who used Madara's name to start a war (he knew that by calling himself Madara it would get attention)
