Are you still burning this stove in your showroom? I have the Leyden and found it impossible to run as designed my first season due to semi-seasoned wood. Last year with dry wood was much better. Still, there is a skill to loading, coal bed, split size, air control, etc......
This stove throws the heat!
If you're having trouble operating, your wood is highly suspect. If you're "dripping" creosote, you're not burning hot enough AND your wood is not seasoned enough.

I have a leyden. The smell in the house was from the gasket between the exhaust throat and the body of the stove is bad.In turn the tar leaks out of the stove and melts on the out side body of the stove. If you have a straight chimney as i have, the creasote drips down onto this gasket and out instead of burning. You must take the rear heat shield off to see the problem. The company has tech support and the bag of the company that sold it to me told me my wood was to wet at 11% moisture.
Please !

Hi Fran, I stumbled on to your video and I was curious about your advice about sealing the stovepipes. Mine are not sealed, and in fact I was told from my dealer that they don't need to be. Most of the time it works fine, but sometimes my house smells like smoke. Mostly on the overnight burns. I was wondering why it didn't smell up the house more consistently if that is a problem? I have another question that I'll address in another post. Thanks! I really like my Leyden, other that a few issues.

Lopi makes the Best pellet stoves. I have the Lopi 400 the top is 1/2" cast Iron, gets super hot and heats the hole 2500sqft house...anything else I have seen is made from cheap sheet metal..harmon.and the other brands can't compare to Lopi
2. Your wood must be properly dried to get the smoke to burn. Yes… that is what you are wanting to do! For most places in this country, that means a full year sheltered from rain! Otherwise, you are trying to burn water- does not work very well. Truly dry firewood will catch fire within 30 seconds of throwing on top of a good bed of coals!

From a Lopi dealer who heats 3600 square feet of showroom with a Leyden….
I will be glad to help you. There are several possibilities which can solve your problem.
1. You may have an air leak in your system. This will reduce draft and cause your symptoms. Think of the effect of a slit in a vacuum cleaner hose to the amount of suction. All stovepipes need to be sealed to each other, to the stove collar, and to the flue. (Use furnace cement squeezed onto the gap between the pipes.

We have this Lopi Layden and it smokes a lot! It is really hard to adjust the fire down at night and now after 3 years it gets the house all smokey and the creasote smell is awful! We have cleaned it out and this is still a problem...Don't buy this stove!
