  • howdy, good sir! i want to applaud you for making all those videos, to show us viewers your way of painting and make it easiert to actually understand quite alot of artistic basics :D personally, i´ve already watched the most part of your uploads and am totally inspired to get deeper into cg-art :D

still i got a question, if you´d care answering, it´d be awesome :D

after filling in color into the overlay layer, did you merge it with the grayscale part?or did you put a normal layer ontop?

    cheers

  • @d3athb3rry NO problem. Layers? Check your inbox for useful articles. Too long to write here.

  • Im slowly getting better at digital art, do you have any tutorials on when to use different edges?

  • @MushiXD I have articles I wrote along with images a while back. Check your inbox

  • what brushes do you use? like the skinny one you used for the background shapes? I don't know what brushes to use

  • @D3MONxOFLiFE You are missing the point. Simple rules 1) Shapes (correct drawing), 2) understanding value (light and shadow) and 3) Edges (Soft edge, hard edge and lost edge). Well, also color harmony, but that can get away without. That is all it is to it. Check your PM for more info.

  • @Nothingreallyexists You know, that's exactly what I've thought. Been watching these Xia's videos for like half a year for now, and it has already felt like few years in art school when I look back and see what I've learned during these few months. These are just pure professional teaching when Xia narrates them, the nice fact is how his narration often breaks out from the current work and focuses on "how/why to do this kind of thing in general", not "how to do this in this piece of artwork"

  • @sharkdanger1 Practice. ;-) Check your inbox.

  • can you give me some advice on shadows and lighting plz :)

  • @Brianpowers1992 Forget the fancy tools, they are useful but defeat the purpose of understanding. Simple rules 1) Shapes (correct drawing), 2) understanding value (light and shadow) and 3) Edges (Soft edge, hard edge and lost edge). Well, also color harmony, but that can get away without. That is all it is to it. Check your PM for more info.
