Yep, if you don't get it you never will.

PURE BRILLIANCE. If you don't get it, you never will...

@cher65p4 its an artistic choice by tom waits. You should hear his earlier lounge like stuff. He has a beautiful normal silky voice, he just chooses to sing this way. Definitely an acquired taste. I'm a huge fan but even for me some songs are just too much

i'm sorry but i don't get how anyone likes this singing if that's what you want to call it? not to offend anyone, i just don't get it.

@leonidasleahy Yeah you right.

There's artists and then there's Tom Waits. No one ever comes close to his level!

Mardi Gras is on March 8, 2011 be in New Orleans! Get away from Bourbon street though, it's sooo lame, I guess , unless you did not grow up here, there are so many cooler places to go!!

This song, to me, is most evocative of the late night/early morning experience in New Orleans in the 1980s. If you weren't there, I feel sorry for you, because I don't know if you can get there anymore. (But drink a couple three hurricanes and you can still approximate the experience of waking up the next morning and only being able to reconstruct about 80% of the previous night.)
His music makes me feel all warm inside when I'm drunk. Also when I'm sober...
