My call to a conservative talkshow about Religious Tolerance

A few weeks ago, I called in to the very conservative morning radio talk show on 590 KLBJ AM here in Austin. I just had to comment on the controversy going on here, regarding non-Christian religious rituals being performed at Hyde Park Baptist Church.

I believe people should be able to worship as they want and if Hyde Park Baptist wants to restrict their services to Baptist tenants, then why is that a problem? Tell you what, the next time you atheists decide to hold a convention, give me a call so that I can make a Christian speech. We'll see how tolerant you are. If I want to be intolerant of other religions (I am not, by the way.) then why is that any of your concern? Tolerance is tolerance whether on my end or yours.

monmichka77--Well I agree that religious groups should have free association, and worship as they want. It's not a problem for me or most Atheists, I'm sure. You're right, we wouldn't want to have a pro-Christian speech at our convention, though we have had some. I was just saying that religion is like that naturally - and not some overly tolerant giant loving family of humans, like Jesus talked about...lol

Jimmal001 - Right, plus isn't it odd that they don't want to discuss religion that "deeply," but they do want public school students to have to pledge to it, and blindly accept it all. I say if this is deep to the adults, certainly children shouldn't be expected to embrace it.

In many aspects, primarily political aspects when it comes to government and how it should be ran, I'm conservative (and I do not believe either Bush or McCain were conservative), but, somehow, I feel as if I am one of the very few non-religious conservatives on this planet.

And yes, religion can be a problem, but I say, let people believe what they want to believe when they're in this country.
