In this video, Betty makes her one-and-only favorite 40-year-old pecan pie recipe. I think you're going to *love* this one!

Ingredients:

9-inch unbaked pie crust
1 cup dark corn syrup
3/4 cup sugar (In my demonstration, I said 1 cup sugar, but 3/4 cup sugar is better.)
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 cup pecan halves
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat the oven to 375 degrees. In a medium to large mixing bowl, mix together 3/4 cup sugar, 1 cup dark corn syrup, 2 tablespoons flour, and 1 teaspoon salt. Beat in 2 eggs, one at a time. Add 1/2 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup pecan halves, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and mix well. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust. Cover the edges of the crust with aluminum foil (cut in appropriate strips) to avoid over-baking the fluted crust. Bake 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

This is my all-time favorite pecan pie. I wouldn't think of trying to improve on it!

  • is evaporated milk the same as condensed milk??

  • @SuperJonas9999 No. The way we get condensed milk is in the form of sweetened condensed milk. Regular milk is closer to condensed milk, but the condensed version is more concentrated.

  • I would challenge this recipe. Not enough nuts.

  • @MrSouthernbeef You may add more nuts.

  • I made this today and it was a HIT....Thanks Betty and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family :)

  • I am going to make your pie. Your husband is a very lucky man to have you. Happy Thanksgiving. 2011

  • I am gonna try this..

  • @mddwwie Don't feel bad, I'm 26 and I don't cook very often. I wish I did, but you got my emotional support from out here in the desert!

  • Ms Betty, I love this video. It makes me feel like I'm at home watching my Grandma cook again. Question - does the sweet condensed milk, along with the sugar and syrup, send this pie into sweetness overdrive? Or is the salt you added enough to take that edge off? I'm curious because I've always found general pecan pie recipes (sugar/karo syrup) to be very sweet on their own. I know I should just try and see for myself but I'm not that good baking. :)
