The first couple rooms in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Wondering how long this took me? I didn't time it, but I believe about 20 hours. If I didn't have to mine all that shit, the time would've been lessened considerably. More than halved, probably. I had to level half a hill, mine copious amounts of cobblestone, cut down dozens of trees, and punch many a sheep and pick many a rose to complete this.

I did it that way to squeeze some more fun outta the game. Building whatever you please is fun and all, but I got tired of building skyscrapers and tunnels... and I have no personal creativity of my own. =D

Yes, this is the first thing I've ever tried to replicate. I'm currently fooling around with the next few rooms in Amnesia - learning as I go. Trial by fire as they say.

Here's a couple of frequent questions/suggestions I've gotten:
---"Use redstone torches instead. It's darker." Yes, but I felt actual torches just LOOKED better.
---"The redstone path you made to the door can go through walls/bricks." I know that and I tried. For whatever reason it made the door start open, and close when activated. It probably could be fixed, but I didn't bother spending any more time to figure out how.
---"Hardened stone or iron blocks would work as pillars." That's a great suggestion - I'll try to incorporate it in the next area.
---"Use a texture pack." I'll have to admit, I've never done that... and I guess I'll look into that more, but frankly I kinda like the idea of foolin' around with the original textures to see what can be done with what you're immediately given.
---"(suggestions to make this a mod/playable level)" That'd be cool and all... but I'm kinda just screwing around for my own entertainment. It seems most of you know more about the game's mechanics than me anyways! It's kind of like asking a kid who plays with legos to build a k'nex rollercoaster without instructions. I spend my free time recording Let's Plays... and I want to keep punctual with that over minecraft. Sorry :/

  • I think its really good, I could tell what everything was before you even gave it away... but yeh I know you can turn torches off but i dont know for sure how.

  • that's awesome

  • Let's Minecraft.

  • Mr.Man, I give you props GALORE for investing so much time into this. :D Beautiful work for going through 'how to makes' for this. I think it would be funny if you made a replica of Mr.Struts (The Grunt) somehow.

    Great work!

  • create a texture pack for this map

  • that's is AWESOME! it's really difficult building maps on minecraft based on games, and the scale that you made yours was near to perfect, in fact i don't think it could get any better! good job!!!

  • look very nice,good job :)

  • Great job, especially for the size! Looks awesome.

  • i am currently making a minecraft version of Theresia Dear Emile DS

  • Looks good. However, personaly I would block the windows with dark blue wool, so that it would look dark outside and also make it dark inside. It's too light inside to scary (Yes, I know this is Minecraft, but still..) Still looks very good though, it's pretty accurate.
