A very close call in WaKeeney, Kansas on May 22, 2008 caught by Phil Kurimski. We left WaKeeney just before the tornado hit and got side swiped by Rear Flank Downdraft winds as we headed east on Interstate 70. Other chasers with Phil that day were Randy Baker, Kirk Swain, Mark Rader and Dave Inmon. Full chase account and pictures here:

  • We were at the Subway getting a late supper in Wakeeney near the KOA campground and left town shortly before the tornado arrived. I kind of wanted to stick around for the tornado, but because it was night I decided it wasnt the best idea. Oh well, I was at Quinter the next day :)

  • Damn! When are you taking me out there? :-)
