This is true and the majority of the population, religious and atheist people alike, are spiritually dead because of our sickly f-ed up consumer culture. People actually think that life is about money, jobs, and material things. They are always "bored" and seek escape through mind degrading media, taking drugs, or sexual pleasures. But the ppl who cause all this know very well the truth and keep everyone else from knowing.
