Contact with nature is powerful, especially water, it is all surrounding and all powerful. Different than hiking or even rock climbing or paragliding. I have done all these sports and there is something about surfing, Even whitewater kayaking is not the same

i watched a movie about the paskowitz family. izzy runs a great surf camp and also the surfer's healing foundation. this man is a real inspiration. god bless you izzy for the love you have and the fact that you are sharing the most amazing feeling of surfing with kids who really need it.

Izzy, you found the piece of you that is in your son. It sounds like your son inherited your surfer's gene and it is unspoiled.

you might want to read 'Son Rise' by Kaufman for a success story with an autistic child

What this man is talking about is a stimulus that is novel, causes concentration, & processes internal stimulus that these children do not process due to not controlling their environment as fully.
What he is also talking about is a father's desire for his son which can seem lost with a diagnosis of autism.
After dolphin therapy, holding therapy, & being around animals some children learn in discrete trial training more efficiently. This is due to the above paragraph effects mentioned.

It's cool to know a little more about Izzy, god bless him and his family. I was lucky enough to have been in the water at Trestles once when he was there ripping the the place,
talk about high performance longboading, he's the Man! I wish him all the best.

Makes sense to me that an autistic person -- whose "difference" is defined by his/her realtions with society -- would be completely at ease when surrounded by the infinite power of nature. We all relax a little when, in nature, we realize that we don't need to relate to anyone else -- that we're all connected to the same thing anyway. Society isn't as important as it thinks it is :)
