Andy Burnham is interviewed on the BBC recommending a debate about regulating the internet in the same way as other media is regulated.

What do you think?

* Is the internet like other media?

* What would be the advantages and disadvantages of regulating the internet?

* Why is the internet different to other media?

  • It wouldn't work...

Private servers and cached stuff with work arounds and Proxys always get past stuff.

Apple does have 'Parental Controls' which do work much better than Vistas.

If they did regulate it we'd turn into Saudi Arabia where even YouTube gets blocked with Mohamed it mentioned...

  • Isn't he just talking about some kind of certification rather than censorship though?

I'm unsure as to how it would work given the viral nature of teh interwebz

  • Andy, no.

  • No, don't be lulled into bullshit. The patriot act killed rights. Free press should never be regulated. It has nothing to do with downloads. It has to do with you watching what "they" want you to watch. They want you to think what they want, and only know what influenced media wants you to see. Wake up, if you think for yourself you are winning the war on freedom. Take a stand. Say NO! I will not let you control my access to truth. Cancel your internet when they control it.

    Free, now.

  • Clearly it's a confusing world for politicians too! Still, if content rating didn't exist already, it would be nice that he was inventing it. I'd love to understand what self-regulatory rating systems have to do with copyright enforcement.

  • MPs have known to get caught in the intelligence trap.burnham confuses orwell for a self help guru
