Ethel Merman and Bert Lahr sing Cole Porter's "Friendship" on the 1954 Colgate Comedy Hour live TV broadcast of a one-hour version of Anything Goes, also starring Frank Sinatra. The song was interpolated into the score for the television broadcast, because Merman and Lahr had introduced it in Porter's 1939 musical DuBarry Was a Lady.

  • don't know where this clip was from but methinks this was from stage - Dubarry was a Lady - Cole Porter?

  • @sfbuddie It was originally from Du Barry, but this rendition was interpolated into the live-TV version of Anything Goes

  • Two great legends. Thank you for posting this.

  • What strikes me here is how MAGNIFICENT Lahr's diction is! Far better than Merman's. He was a pip!

  • The results of many years of stage performances - knowing how to do it right.

  • What .... is Ethel wearing? lol

  • Cowardly lion with Gypsy's mom.
