John Denver sings "I Want To Live" in this clip airing 8/18/91. John Denver and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus were the guest performers on this episode of Evening at Pops, a weekly series on PBS. John Williams conducted the Boston Pops for this live performance in Boston's Symphony Hall.

Background: In 1977, Denver co-founded The Hunger Project with Werner Erhard and Robert W. Fuller. He served for many years, and supported the organization until his death. John was also appointed by President Jimmy Carter to serve on the President's Commission on World Hunger, writing the song "I Want to Live" as its theme song.

  • I spent all of my teens and my twenties looking for this song. All I could remember was the line, "It's an idea whose time has come". Indeed it is. This may well be the most important song humanity has ever heard. Thank you, John Denver, for this song. I have used it to define my life.
