  • you're a legend.

  • You are too kind!

  • I just bought a Black Mountain dulcimer. Thanks for vids. -Ron

  • You are welcome. Hope you enjoy the dulcimer as much as I do.

  • D,G,D seems to work for the Scottish songs I like to play :-)

I have a video of my playing on here in 2007 !!

Its just a cheap Romanian instrument though, but its an MD.

    I like the subtitles

  • There are several different tunings for the dulcimer. use the one that seems to work for most of the songs you play.

    Glad you like the subtitles!

  • Good instructions. What difference would dad make? My dulcimer came tuned to dgd

  • Example: Bass string is showing G# on the tuner.

Do I tighten or loosen the peg to get to A?

Is there an A below and an A above the G, like on a piano?

Is there a ratio, such as a quarter turn jumps 2 notes?

I know. It's a lot of questions. (Blushing)

  • is the melody string doubled?

If so, tune both to A

    Middle to A

    Bass D

    Hope this helps!

  • I have a four string dulcimer-so how would I tune it? If you can just tell me which notes to tune to, I'd appreciate it so much! Thanks!

  • Thank you for taking the time and effort to make this video! Purchased an old dulcimer (4 string) at a pawn shop in Madisonville, KY for Mom and she just loves it, she wants to try to learn how to play and I had no idea how to go about tuning it, THANKS AGAIN, TAKE CARE and BE GOOD!!!

  • @10achus tightening the peg will make the string sound a higher note. thinking of your notes in terms of a piano keyboard is a good method, instead of thinking in ratios, try to train your ear to match the note your string sounds with a reference note, (pitch pipe) or drop some cash on a tuner, im fond of the clip on variety of tuners, instead of a microphone they pick up the vibrations through the instrument and as such are unaffected in noisy rooms, hope this helps

  • thank you!

  • Tighten the string for and A.

Concerning the A's.... tune where you see the A on your tuner. that will be the A' above middle 'C' on the piano.

There are no ratios that I am aware of. I just keep turning the peg ( I have gear pegs on the one in the video) until I get tot eh desired pitch.. Hope this helps.
