This is a storage and rotation system based on 55 gallon drums and a garden water hose connection. Get the drums from any food processor in your area, most use some type of flavor agent. These were soy sauce from a beef jerky plant (THANKS OBERTO!). Wash well, then plumb in. Fast cheap and effective.

  • Since mine is for EMERGENCY use. I figured I'd unhook it and tip them over one at a time to get water out. AND as I said, I have really good gravity filters. I wouldn't drink it untreated. These filters are good enough to filter bog water to safe water in Haiti, I think the wee pit o plastic in the hose is the LEAST of my worries in an emergency big enough to make this system an asset in a crisis.

  • could you drop these under ground .or do you think it would lleach some thing from the ground into the water

  • a couple of idea's to help out here; plastic heated swells and contracts with cold/winter freezing - the plastic/rubber could bust; so they need to be out of the sun and bad weather; also if you lose water pressure it would be better to stair step them so gravity could help when you need to get at the water: if needed you could use suction at the exit hose; also to keep them from bulging/leaking you don't have to keep water running constantly just use occasionally then turn off entrance faucet.

  • This is great for watering your grass. But the point of having a water barrel is storage in case of an emergency. How are you suppose to get the water out if you don't have city water?

  • You could harvest rainwater for free..

  • good idea exept the garden hose is made out of oils.need a food grade garden hose or make one from food grade hose and garden hose adapters

  • Just went to the filters link....great place to buy the candle filters and for a great company that helps out our worlds water crises.
