home made 12 volt DC linear actuator made from a 6 volt Black&Decker electric screwdriver, ABS pipe, metal conduit, threaded rod and a few nuts and bolts. It is lifting over 24lbs of batteries so it has plenty of torque. Two nuts are pressed into the conduit pipe and this is threaded onto the threaded rod making a worm gear arrangement that prevents back drive. The screwdrivers planetary gears along with the threaded rod/nut setup gives the actuator a very high gear ratio. Its travel is about 6 to 8 inches.

  • That is fricken awesome. You are a PVC / ABS GOD, you can make that stuff into anything lol love it.

  • @KyleCarrington ... yea I like working with the pvc/abs its so easy ... but I heard its going to be phased out?

  • @helpmonkey really? phased out? I can't see the irrigation industry operating without it! That's partly what I do for a living, too LOL

  • @KyleCarrington ... maybe just phased out of residential use? ... some guy at homedepot told me that ???

  • YES I AGREE. ALL HAIL THE GREAT HELP MONKEY. GREAT SHOW. LOOKS LIKE THE WAY THEY BUILD AUTOMATIC SWR TUNERS FOR 2 METER FM RADIO TRANSCIEVERS. I KNEW WHAT THEY USED, BUT I NEVER TOOK THE TIME TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO CONNECT THE PARTS AND ACTUATE.

THIS GIVES ME AN IDEA FOR MAKING A CAR JACK WITH WASHING MACHINE MOTOR.

  • @helpmonkey THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD MATCH FOR IT'S POWER. IT SHOULD LAST FOR A LONG TIME. IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THE ACTUATOR IS STRONGER THAN THE LOAD PRESENTED TO IT. THAT MEANS LITTLE WEAR AND TEAR. I'M LOOKING FORWARDS TO THAT ONE.
