Notes:

1. I am not an auto mechanic and therefore cannot guarantee that everything I did was proper procedure.

2. This video only shows how to replace the pads. A complete brake job might include a brake fluid flush as well.

3. ft-lbf (foot pounds force) is a measure of energy and work. lbf-ft (pound foot) is a measure of torque. Oh engineering...

4. I created this video as a guide to show how it's done. It is not a substitute for the shop manual. The only thing I can guarantee is that it is not 100% the proper service procedure. Please follow this video at your own risk.

  • you got me worried now how much would a garage charge for disks pads and renew fluid im just a little nervous about atempting this.myself

  • @harveydog2006 I couldn't tell you how much it would cost because I've never paid someone to do it for me. If you're not comfortable, just pay someone else to do it. No shame in that.

  • HI, great video. I noticed that you did not bleed the breaks, is that not needed with new cars? I have a 02 but Im thinking the process is the same.

  • @Maxxmentum As part of a complete brake job, you should bleed the brakes. Standard procedure on even the newest of cars, as far as I know.

  • Thank you so much for the video. They were by far the most explainatory for pad change for a focus. i have 3 questions:

    1) The allen wrench you used, was it a 7mm?

    2) The retainer clip, does it come with the pads when you puchase the pads?

    3) Are the back brake pads the same way? If not, harder or easier than front pad replacement?

    Thanks again for your help.

  • @thomas9504

    1. 99% positive its a 7mm allen wrench

    2. If you mean the retaining clip attached to the pads, then yes it comes with the pads.

    3. I have rear drum brakes, and I don't have the shop manual right now, so I can't say that doing the rear pads is exactly the same. I know from experience (on other cars) that sometimes it is very similar, and sometimes the rear calipers are complicated by the parking brake mechanism making it a bit harder.

  • Ur a great teacher! Thank u

  • Great video- thanks!!! A few months back I changed my rotors (but NOT the Brake pads) they were still in decent condition. However we did not spray & clean the rotors like you said.... (ops) A few weeks later there was still a grinding noise, so we changed the Calipher. A month later it has started making a noise again, I am not sure what the issue is now???

  • Really useful and simple description. Gave me the confidence to go do the job myself. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the video. I'm viewing it after getting stuck trying to get the caliper back on. I didn't know about the piston since I'd only skimmed a written account of how to change the pads and this is my first ever brake pad change. Also, if you don't have a 7mm Allen wrench, a 45 Torx bit will do the job. Three sets of Allen wrenches and not a one of them with a 7mm! Back to it... the car is outside and it's supposed to rain again tomorrow. Thanks again!

  • Superb video man, very helpful.

  • @tanman758 Yes, 100% it was a 7mm. 1/4" is too small, 5/16" is too big and in metric 6mm is too small and 8mm is too large, these are common sizes found on hex wrench key set.

You NEED 7mm or it will not move!

P.S. Thank you so much for this video! It really helped me :)
