Frankie is studying bivalves (clams) for a test in the science course she's auditing, but Cass has a question for her that's not the least bit scientific: "True or false: I am marrying Cass Winthrop before July 4." Frankie answers none of the above. When Cass asks her why the question upset her so much, she says it felt like an ultimatum. He assures her that's not the case, then says he thought that she does want to get married. She assures him she does, but points out that bad things happen every time they try to get married. First she was kidnapped before the ceremony. Cass promises that all kidnappers will be deleted from the guest list. Then she reminds him that Kathleen interrupted their next attempt. "No ex-wives, dead or otherwise," Cass vows. Frankie says the next one is a big one. Cass tells her he's listening. Frankie asks Cass to promise her that he'll still love her even after they're married. Cass replies, "I will always love you, forever." He goes on to say that marriage is a sacred commitment, one that he wants to make with Frankie, and the third time's a charm. Frankie says she wants that too, but she needs more time. Cass assures her he's not going anywhere. They're interrupted then when Cass gets a phone call from Kevin Anderson--Dennis Wheeler just got hammered and got in a fistfight at Ed's Bar because he was upset about Olivia Matthews getting together with her physical therapist David and moving away, because Olivia was pregnant with Dennis's baby, and Olivia and David are going to raise the child together (not shown), and Cass leaves a message for Byron to get down to Ed's and help Kevin with Dennis. By the time Cass hangs up the phone, Frankie has answered the doorbell: it's a fellow college student, Lance Hunter, who is going to a Romantic poetry study group with Frankie. Lance calls Cass "sir" when he shakes Cass's hand, and Cass pulls Frankie aside and tells her to be careful with this guy. Young men, Romantic poetry, it can be a volatile mix. Frankie laughs and says she loves when Cass gets jealous because his ears turn red, and she reaches out to touch his earlobe with her fingertip. He tells her he's serious, and she assures him he has nothing to worry about and kisses him before leaving. Lance tells Cass he'll have Frankie back soon, then winks at Cass, and after Frankie and Lance have left, Cass can't believe that Lance actually winked at him! Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
