Peter Green's classic "Slabo Day" with Snowy White playing the lead. A beautiful rendition of Peter Green's masterpiece. Snowy has often spoke of Peter as one of his largest influences; this influence is clearly demonstrated in Snowy's guitar playing. Both artists are among my very favourite; they both play with a kind of slow preciseness. The space between their notes do not appear accidentally, every note seems to be held for just the right amount of time, and every succeeding note seems to be struck at just the right point in time. Such a phenomenon is hard to explain; if you don't understand what I mean, or if you don't believe me, just go listen to Peter Green's "Apostle", "A Fool No More", "Albatross", or Snowy's "Midnight Blues", "Little Wing (Live)", or "The TIme Has Come".

  • @marvottis I believe you are correct. I think Snowy must have played lead both on the album as well as in the sessions. It's interesting though that the version they chose for the album has a more "peter green-esque' quality — to me, at least — than the groups and sessions version here. Perhaps it's the difference in the rhythm section, that goldtop tone sounds as good as ever in either one!

  • @hellswinter it's snowy on the album for sure my friend.

  • @hellswinter Hi there...Im in doubt...lol...Ive listened to what Peter said like 5 or 6 times....it looks like he said: "I take it this time"...you see "I", so it means that this is Greeny playing the lead....we'll have to ask Snowy..whatta ye think!!!! help me out here..lol...!!!!!!!

    Have a nice day

    Vanu.

  • @vanu49 Hmm, you may be right about that. I've always thought that Peter played all the lead on In The Skies (the last album he made with most of his full mental capacity). At the beginning of this version, Peter says to Green, "Take it this time" I've always inferred that that is Green telling Snowy to take the lead THIS time, as in, last time (the album version) has Green playing lead. Listening to them back to back now, and it seems more like Snowy's Goldtop on In The Skies...

  • @hellswinter Well this upload sure is a different take from the one that appears on "In The Skies", but Peter Green is not mentioned as lead guitarist, it is Snowy who plays the lead!!!!! but tks 4 the upload anyway coz I think this one is better than the one on "In The Skies".

  • @59ambulance He plays lead on the solo album In The Skies. He plays lead on that whole album, while Snowy plays rhythm. On a couple of the tracks (Slabo Day and In The Skies), they recorded a version of Snowy playing. These only appear on Goldtop: Groups and Sessions. If you listen to this back to back with Slabo Day from In The Skies, you'll hear the difference.

  • yes, 59ambulance, i now realize that PG didn't play lead, but played rhythm.

  • @zippers2

Peter Green never played lead on "Slabo Day". At least not on any recordings I have ever heard or seen...

  • IRE IRE I LOVE.....

  • you are correct, Hellswinter, that, bravo to SW for being sensitive, and having the touch he does. Do you or anyone out there know of how procure a book of tabs

called 'instant peter green'....I hear it is great, and out of print. Please do let me know if anyone has a clue. thanks....
