  • The pianist looks a bit like Bartok himself, eh?

  • I don't think so. :-)

  • Ahh I'm going to see this on Friday in the Disney Hall!!! Yefim Bronfman's playing it and Zubin Mehta will conduct. :P

  • Have a good time!

  • Thanks 1984robert for this amazing performance. Do you also have the 3rd movement?

  • Wish I could respond to many earlier comments. To start: I've loved this concerto since I was 14-15; 69 now. I've heard it live 2-3 times and own about 5 recordings, some very good. But this is the best: absolutely kinetic! Wish I could get it on CD, Re Stravinsky: some critics make much of similarity of opening theme to a major one in Firebird; but that's only 1st 7 notes. So what? Stravinsky much overrated IMO. Bartok greatest of 20th cent., along w/ Britten & prob'ly Shostakovitch.

  • I'm not familiar with this pianist, but he plays this with great panache. Must look out for him in future. Very good :)

  • ...maybe should have managed to get in a little more of the old bartokian rubato, and the old bartokian legato-cantilena...but Mr. Ranki is a Hungarian, he is supposed to know his Bartok...actually the conductor is one, too...

  • @BlackKaweah Heh, he really is. :D I saw him a month ago in recital here again, playing a Haydn sonata, a piece by Schumann called "Humoreske," and all twelve Op. 10 Études by Chopin, it was something to see...

Hopefully I can see him again this month, he'll be doing Brahms's 2nd Piano Concerto. :)

  • @mario54671 Hey, I saw that! Bronfman is amazing.

  • molto bello

  • molto bello!
