@Muffy2314 Joanie and Arlene did sound a bit alike, and happened to be friends, too. They and a few other women from their circle did yoga together in the 50s, long before it ever got popular. They both worked pretty extensively in radio, too (as did Bill Cullen), so their paths crossed pretty frequently.

@AdamNedeff Hey, Adam. Great stuff here. This was a classic and very funny episode. And you were correct, Arthur Godfrey was a bit of a jerk off camera, some would go so far as to say he was MORE than a bit of a jerk. Arthur Godfrey could be and WAS very egotistical.

I always wondered if Robert Q. Lewis was of the "other persuasion". I'm not knocking him but my gaydar is usually 95% correct. Notice too that back then people could smoke cigarettes on tv and it wasn't a sin. This was a great show and I remember watching it GSN when it was a good channel.

Here's as much as I know about that: Lewis was a frequent guest-host on Arthur Godfrey's show. Godfrey, who was a bit of a jerk off-camera, once made a very subtle quip about Lewis, saying "I wonder what the Q stands for," with everybody who knew them knowing what Godfrey was hinting at.
