  • Not a dumb question at all. The answer is you can't. There are some things that they do for sailboats to provide a path from the top of the mast to the keel for the lightning to travel in the hopes to minimize damage.

When a storm comes up and I am on my cruiser I just ensure that no one is touching anything metal, and we also move down into the cabin. Most of the time I hide in a cove with much taller trees around. Hopefully the lightning will like them better.

  • Don't Go out in it ?

  • You mentioned possible thunderstorms. This may sound like a dumb question but how do you prevent a boat from getting struck by lightning?
