Handmade tubular bells for http://XyloVan.com - raw test

This is a test of the untuned set of tubular bells for XyloVan.

These are a pain in the ass to tune.

Unlike the flat-bar aluminum keys for XyloVan's traditional They cannot be tuned down (flatted) if I cut them too short - they can only be made sharper by cutting slices off the ends. Fortunately they worked out to a sort of koto-like scale on their own.

They have been cut out of 1-1/8" powdercoated aluminum tubing.

Miking them's going to be a challenge - I'm thinking some kind of resonator or sound chamber positioned at one end of the tubes, fitted with a mike, should do it.

Dumb luck, I'm afraid. You can only sharp the notes by cutting off the ends, but you can't flat them by any means I've been able to find.
