"Doctor Finlay" is a British television series based on A.J. Cronin's stories about the fictional hero, Dr. Finlay. It is a follow-up to "Dr. Finlay's Casebook," the successful BBC series. This show picks up the story in the days immediately following World War II. Dr Finlay returns to the practice at Arden House in Tannochbrae at a time when the National Health Service is about to be instituted.The show stars David Rintoul as Dr. Finlay, Ian Bannen as his semi-retired practice partner, Dr. Cameron, and Annette Crosbie as his housekeeper, Janet. Other central characters include Finlay's assistant, Dr. Neil, played by Jason Flemyng and Finlay's new partner, Dr. Napier, played by Jessica Turner. The series was a Scottish Television production that was filmed in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland. It aired in the U.S. on PBS' "Masterpiece Theatre."

An army deserter, hidden on a nearby farm, causes problems for Finlay and Cameron. Brenda's American fiancé, due to be demobbed, tries to persuade her to sail for the U.S.A immediately. There is good news at last for Alison and Ronnie Grieves. And Dr. Neil joins the church choir in time for the service of dedication to those Tannochbrae men who died in the war.
