@nas2020ful1 Make a solid effort to consume low carbs & avoiding simple sugars starting the night before. Most patients can be NPO for 4-6 prior to scan & still see accurate results. However, since these scans are costly, better fasting & preparation can increase your chance for a solid diagnosis. Lastly, make sure the radiologist that's interpreting your scan has extensive training in PET, many don't.

Thx v much for the info....it's very well explained....it's based on metabolic activity
-I ve no problem with the accent (American...& I m a Malaysian)...
-What I m not clear is we r told too restrain from taking too much simple sugars prior to the scan, as it might interfere with its absorption into the cells.....the question is a relative HOW mUCH is too much & for how long before z procedure?

Could a PET scan be used as a lie detector? You know, to see which parts of the brain light up? They detected a lie using the PET scanner on House, but that's a TV show. It's the same show where they suggested using chemo and radiation to treat Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, so I don't trust it.

Thank you for this wonderful video! I'm a student at Psychology and i was told that the PET scan is not recommended when analyzing subcortical structures. Is that due to the high intake of glucose or what could be the reason? Thank you :)

A recent CT scan, 3 year post HL survivor, indicated enlarged lymph nodes in my lower neck; previous my cancer was located in my sub mandibular area. I was then ordered to have a PET scan performed. If the malignancy needs to be at least half a centimeter in size to show on a PET does that mean there is a good chance I am not in remission?
