MaximsNewsNetwork: 22 July 2009 - UNTV: United Nations -- Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki says that in his meeting set for Thursday with U.S. President Barack Obama, he would emphasize the desire for the U.S. and Iraq to continue working according to the agreements signed between the two countries.
Iraqs Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki met with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and then with the five permanent members of the Security Council today at UN headquarters to discuss the lifting of all legally binding resolutions against Iraq, dating from Saddam Hussein's 1990 invasion of Kuwait.
Malikis visit to the U.N. comes a day ahead of his first meeting with United States (U.S.) President Barack Obama since U.S. troops withdrew from Iraqi cities at the end of June.
Maliki told journalists outside the Security Council that he would emphasize Iraqs desire to continue working with the U.S. according to the agreements that have been signed between two countries.
He added that there would be an emphasis on the development of a, dual relationship in economic, trade, scientific and political interests.
