The 'bishop' is a dangerous man. Many commentators have referenced his possible atheism, he is like many preists/bishops in this country who cling onto the church despite plainly not being religious. A confused man - who has now decided that shariah law would be right for this country. Obviously doesn't give two shits about the suffering and exploitation of women+gays that would result from that.

Which commentators and where? I would like to see this for myself. I see no evidence of him not being a religious man. Also, you should probably go back to your sources on the Sharia law thing. He never said that "Sharia law would be right for this country', but that certain aspects of it were unavoidable if we wanted to maintain social cohesion.

There is absolutely no need to interpret his response in the way you have. Its your own horrible interpretation of it that makes your skin crawl. He is clearly making a reference to being ready to receive forgiveness.

Right, you have to change the meaning of the word "spiritual" to make that work.

A better choice would be to say the films (or whatever) are "reverant" or "humble" or "devotional" towards non-spiritual issues.

I don't need to believe in spirits to have trancedent experiences---like listening to Bach or standing in awe at Michelangelo's David.

Spiritual just implies a whole lot of superstitous goofiness.
