Keep up to date with Shedd's Oceanarium animals and trainers with this Web diary series about all their doings off site during the renovation. In this entry, marine mammal trainer Madelynn Hettiger talks about preparing the beluga whales and dolphins for the animal transport.

  • You can start your mammal training career by learning how to spell mammal LOL. Then get a degree (at least bachelor, B.S. degree) in biology/zoology even better mammalogy, the more school the better. In the mean time, do as much volunteer work as you can to gain experience.

  • You wouldn't HAVE to move but it migth be in your best interest to move if you find a good job/school/internship. Study Psychology/biology in college and look up marine mammal training on the internet for more helpful info.

  • Check out Moorpark in California - its a school that can prepare you for training exotic animals. Of course, a degree in biology is always helpful. Try seeking out volunteer opportunites to gain experience.

  • hopefully someone with useful information will see this and help. Ive loved marine life since i was a little girl and recently grown a great interest for becoming a marine mammel trainer. i live in chicago, how would i go about making my dream come true? would i HAVE to move? if so i wouldnt mind,,, these are just some questions... someone please assist me! thank you! :)
