A quick note about planting bulbs that I've also posted on my website at http://www.flower-garden-bulbs.com/ . I sometimes get questions about how deep to plant bulbs and in fact, when I get a new tulip bulb (often directly from Amsterdam, Holland because I get the new introductions every year) I have the same question.

For the most part though - I don't worry or even bother to look it up.

I go with the simple rule of thumb that you plant a bulb twice as deep as it is tall. So if the measurement of the bulb is 1-inch from the top to the bottom of the bulb, the top of the bulb will be planted so it is 2-inches below the surface of the garden.

But having said that - this isn't rocket science so don't worry if it's slightly higher or slightly lower. Close counts when it comes to planting bulbs.

If you're looking for tulip care tips, you'll find those at http://www.flower-garden-bulbs.com/tulips.html

  • @helencheryl thanks - keeping things simple is the only way I can garden (or remember what the heck I'm supposed to be doing) :-)

  • Doug, I like your simple is best approach! Works for me!
