The song was written and first recorded by Ray Charles in 1956, and it serves as a backdrop for a little known love story involving Eddie Cochran. The girl pictured in this video with Eddie is Sharon Sheeley who had become his fiancee prior to his tragic death in an auto crash in April of 1960. Sharon was a songwriter in her own right having penned such numbers as "Poor Little Fool" for Ricky Nelson, "Something Else" for Eddie and later "Dum Dum" and "Heart In Hand" (written with Jackie DeShannon) for Brenda Lee. On the day of Eddie's fatal car crash, Sharon had just recently joined him in London while he was on tour with Gene Vincent. All three were in the rented taxi that crashed, and both Sharon and Gene suffered severe injuries. Eddie Cochran died that day at the age of 21.

  • I knew both Eddie and Sharon, they were in love, contrary to what stories float around,Eddie actually asked Sharon to marry him,Eddie was a good friend, and they planned to marry when they returned to the States, you can believe anything you want to,but I knew Eddie since 1958, and believe it or not, they were really in love.Sincerely,"The Original Chevelles" Chuck Bruni.

  • the version I try to do is the pal mccartney`s on the anthology album, please, somebody help me

  • hello there, Does anybody here knows the chords of this great song?, please somebody help me, love this one in all versions Ive heard till this day

  • Yea, it's Sharon but none would have know what would happen with them if Ed wouldn't passed away so young. According To Bobby Cochran (a very good musician in his own right), Ed's nephew, Sharon might have exaggerated their love story a bit. I mean, Ed was only 21 when he bite the dust and at that age not many love relations ships tend to be forever. Nuff about that. Btw, I love this version by Mr Cochran.

  • Hi, Nocaro! So you like Eddie Cochran too!

  • Wow. I did not know any of the background information up above. It feels kinda odd to feel for these three young kids fifty years after the fact !
