This shows how to open an iPod 3G. You will most likely damage your iPod 3G if you try. Send it in to get fixed either at Apple or a 3rd party place like www.iRepair.ca

  • I sat on my iPod and now the headphone connection is filled with my headphone connector. Could I get I out by doing this or do I need to see someone about it?

  • @MrIPodTouchU - I wouldn't do this to clear the headphone jack. Try putting a small drop of Crazy glue on the tip of a paper clip and stick it the jack. Once the glue sets, hopefully you will be able to pull the part out. You could also try it with a round tooth pick (cut the end off) or something else that is slightly smaller in diameter then the hole. Careful not to put too much glue, you don't want to end up making things worse by gluing it in place. Good luck.

  • It was VERY easy to take apart the first part and I ave no interest in taking apart the actual second screen. I dropped a drop of water on my home button and it messed up my headphone jack. Now the end of my headphone broke and is stuck in my ipod. How the fuck do I get it out xD!!! And is there a way to remove rust or clean the headphone jack because only one headphone works

  • @JamesonLB - Try some 99% Isopropyl alcohol (can be bought at a pharmacy). It will remove a lot a crud and some rust but just surface rust. If the oxidation is more severe then the circuit is toast. Make certain the contact patch of the home button on the logic board is clean and the small copper plate spring isn't bent down. For the HP jack, if cleaning doesn't help, it could be that the contact plating has flaked off and you would need to replace the jack with a new one. Good luck.

  • This is the only decent video that actually explains how to open these things. Thanks.

  • @noahspurrier - Glad to have helped.

  • ok so my sister found this ipod touch on the ground, idk but i think its a 3g. i recently found out that it's still in working condition, if plugged in, but the battery wont hold a charge, as well as it keeps automatically restarting unless connected to itunes.... (ie. I plug it into my computer and get the white apple logo, after about a minute it goes black and restarts) can anyone diagnose my ipod and help me fix it? idk if it's jailbroken or anything
