I hate how Glass gets all the glory for minimalist composition (he is great, don't get me wrong.. Akhnaten? glorious) but Adams is a genius in my opinion.

I heard this piece for the first time on Radio 3 today. It's like Steve Reich's Different Trains and somewhere in the middle it hits Bernard Hermann and then England's Green and pleasant land; the bit that wants to be mauled by High Speed Rail. What an exciting piece of music. Thank you for posting. I must buy a version.

@LilStewerdess The shoe doesn't fit. Some of Glass's early work can be properly called minimalism in the Reich-Riley -axis but all in all most of his work is something else.

@coosoorlog Glass can hate being called minimalist all he wants.. but we have to call a spade a spade.. It would be like Metallica saying "we don't like being called a rock band.".. Doesn't matter.. Minimalism is minimalism.. not matter what you call it.. Shoe fits? Wear it

This is Simon Rattle with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, correct? I've downloaded this recording and it sounds eerily similar to a recording by Edo de Waart.
