This is a short vid I shot on April 24, 2003 at the Games Day event in Portsmouth, NH of Gary DMing an original adventure from the original "white box" D&D. This was a charity event held by Jumpgate SF store to benefit Childhood Cancer LifeLine of New Hampshire.

  • Classic D&D, without all the complexity and mess of mega-detailed rules, was absolutely awesome. Less time looking at a table full of books and more time with nothing between the players except a handful of dice and a single sheet of paper.

  • Man Gary Gygax was a genius! I love D&D!

  • he didint die he ascended to god hood.

we will miss you Gary Gygax, you brought not only joy into my life with the creation of d&d but also an outlet for my anger, thank you

  • I wonder if we can use a resurrection ritual...SOMEONE GET A SORCERER!!!AND HURRY UP!!!!! At least get a necomancer...better then nothng.

  • his birthday is on my birthday

  • Wish there were more to this. I'd love to see more footage of him DMing, along with the other greats: Arneson, Bledsaw, Greenwood, Hargrave, Hickman, Mentzer, Miller, the list goes on...

  • @PlagueWinds very excellent point.

  • @ZachariasClub It just goes to show what a following he has (or had). You don't go making a game that becomes popular worldwide--with novels, fanfics, miniatures, board games, TV shows, movies, parodies, and many other things based on it--without getting some of the due credit. Aside from that, he has a wonderful reputation as being a great person. This makes him not only well-known, but well-loved. R.I.P.

  • The true DM. R.I.P GaryGygax.

  • @Odhanan - that's really up for debate. Arneson has been making that same claim for years.
