Given the cost of land and construction in urban areas and the amount of time church buildings spend vacant, is there a better approach to church in the urban setting? That's what were discussing at Genesis (www.genesisdenver.com) in Denver, CO.
This is stuff a church should be doing anyway. The question is, where do you go to grow the converts into mature Christians. Our converts need a place both to learn and to serve, and not one of us is ever past that point no matter how long we've been saved. There has to be a way to find a "place of worship" even when building a new church building is not feasible. Any suggestions?
@MattPerk7 unfortunately, no. I ran into two problems downtown. One was the lack of an anchor that you bring up, and the second was the transitional nature of the community. You connect with people, plant seeds, get them started, and then watch them move.
What I'd love to try is taking an older and dying church and having a group of existing Christians trained to live missionary move into the community and commit to loving it. Same approach, but sustainable because of that foundation.
@psalm3003 I like it. Urban church planting is something I believe God is pushing me towards, and I want to get ideas from as many people as possible. I may talk to you more about this later. God bless.

all that stuff seems like the kind of things all Christians should be doing... maybe it's just me.

I completely agree ... just tends to take most out of their comfort zones.
