@LordOwenLongstrider couple things... first off, if they aren't metal ya really shouldn't be calling it a sword. You are using sticks and clubs. Secondly, unlike many others who do similar combat to ours, we are not just tapping each other. Not full force swings, granted... but we don't wear plate either... and are also bruised up afterwards, see, its a fine line between control and mayhem...

Well as for no documentation for shield wall used by the Norse i suggest you do a bit more research, there is plenty of evidence in chronicles of the time from multiple sources.
