it was the same for me, used to love thrash metal, but i said, nope i dont like deathmetal. but its true i only knew modern crap and also mostly grindcore like stuff(which i still dont like)....so really i just had to find thrash stuff first, how about if you get him there with some Possessed and Morbid Saint?
