So, can you use the Extended only between Macs? If so than I am fine. Or do you mean one comp?

When I follow your video step by step, it fails. Disk Utility tells me that there was a error, that it could not unmount the disk to format it. Any suggestions? Thanks

thank you thank you!!!! :)
In response to the video, if there are files currently on the HDD, this will then erase all the data currently on the HDD. Is there a way around this? are we able to format the hard drive and keep all the files currently on it?
thanks

@timmiiV Unfortunately, as far as we know, formatting a drive requires the contents of the drive to be deleted. We haven't found a way around it yet.

I wish you had shown how to do it for Mac OS Extended (whether Journaled or not), because I am getting erase errors when I try to use that. I can ONLY do it as FAT. It's a WD My Passport Essential SE.

@kphag We will try to get a video for you as soon as possible with a similar hard drive as the one you mentioned.

Great video, thanks!
Is there any way to do this without erasing what's already on the on the hard drive? Essentially i'm trying to add something from my Mac to this HD and it wont allow me to (this HD is near full and don't want to erase it).

@kylestenson Unfortunately, as far as we know the HDD must be completely erased in order to change it to a compatible format.
