In which Matt and Hatter try to ignore the mysterious voice and compare Neil Gaiman's book to Henry Sellick's adaptation.

This video contains NO MOVIE CLIPS. This is purposeful. I'm doing an experiment.

  • Just for your information Henry Selick also directed the Nightmare Before Christmas, that is why it looked similar to that film, but Tim Burton wrote the Nightmare Before Christmas.

  • @wdbisl I know . . . I believe I said that at one point. (The first part, not the second.)

  • Oh, and by the by, Tim Burton didn't direct this film. It was Henry Sellick (correct me if I have the wrong spelling), the same man who directed The Nightmare Before Christmas.

  • @TheAlxxHydeShow I never said he did . . .

  • Finally, a review where I have both read the book, and seen the movie. :) Very well thought out, I'm a huge fan of Neil Gaiman. You rock!

  • lol beldam means hag XD

  • You never mentioned the other mother planned to eat the children.

  • I just love the whole "she's a bitch!" comment, it's so true

  • This was an interesting review. I remember this book from when I was a kid. Personally I loved the antagonist and imagery of the book. As you said there's this feeling of ancientness to the other world and mother, and the fact that it's not explained, I feel actually benefits the story. It felt more like we were in Coraline's shoes, and we there's the feeling of fearing it, and not understanding it. I feel that the lack of information made the ordeal feel more real and threatening.

  • I agree. Both versions are great, in my opinion, but yeah, the movie wins

  • Was there any mention of the cat?

  • nice molet book guy :D

  • I liked Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Corpse Bride

  • Love it. I should tell you that Coraline is one of my all time favorite movies so I was quite excited to see what you had to say, you didn't disappoint. :)

Anyway, I'm in agreement with you about the film being better (I have read the book, very good read) and I saw it as a double feature with the Friday the 13th remake. No, no, it wasn't an actual double feature it was i.e. me simply walk into another screening.

And this story arc you have in mind, very well done and I await more.
