Eugenie de Montijo was the consort of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte and the last Empress of France. A native of Spain she married Louis after he became Emperor Napoleon III and was known for her dignified nature, religious zeal and fascination with all things Marie Antoinette. A key advisor to her husband she was often the primary conservative voice of those around him and her desire to aid the Church in all situations put her in favor of French intervention in Rome, Mexico and Indochina. She gave Louis his only son and heir, the Prince Imperiale Napoleon IV. After the fall of the 2nd Empire she lived in England and later the south of France. She died in Spain but was buried in England.
